還記得我們上次在台北採訪的Tom嗎? 今天看到這po文就覺得很棒! 很久沒有見到螢火蟲的他, 真的是有感而發. 祝他在台灣五周年快樂! Tom Rook Maps and Designs This beautifully inspired design is by the most talented mapmaker I know. If you watch our show, you'll remember Tom Rook, who showed us around one of Taipei's old military dependent villages (at Toad Mountain). This design was inspired by the fact that he hasn't seen fireflies in years and is concerned that urbanization is to blame. You can see not only his love for nature, but also for cities, maps, and the great, complex, beautiful confusion of it all.
昆蟲系列四: 螢火蟲. Insect No4: Firefly
Today is the end of my fifth year in Taiwan. I've still not seen fireflies in the wild. This was drawn as a reminder to myself to see them quickly; as every year more of their habitat is built over or disturbed. My Chinese still isn't great, I have a lot of work and little spare time, but I'm happy. Next year I look forward to being more free to study and draw (and see firefly forests)!
